Captain's Barge

Picture
This design was inspired by Phil Bolger's Gloucester Yawl design (Small Boats, page 48).  I decreased the length to 15' and narrowed the submerged hull to a foot, She's designed to carry about 400 lbs with the upper hull just kissing the water. The upper hull has a beam of 3'5" so any additional weight would not lower the DWL unduly. She will carry two adults and a couple of kids handily. She is meant for leisurely rowing in protected waters or with a slight modification to the rudder placement she could be driven by a small electric motor mounted amidships under the stern sheets with a battery box under the forward thwart. The prop shaft would be parallel to the DWL and pass through the stern of the submerged hull.

LOA 15', Max beam 3'6" draft 6"
